Slowly putting things back

Getting the tub in place really gives a better picture of how the room is going to come together.

Yesterday, I had a major assist from a friend to get the bathtub back in its new location. We moved the tub from the guest room on Monday night then waited for Friday to start putting things back to normal.

This renovation revolves around our Kohler cast-iron bathtub. It's 66" long and 18" deep. It's original to the house from 1929. It is also very heavy.

With help from a friend on Friday, we got the tub lined up and in its new home. With the help of prying bars, 2x4s, and some power tools, we got it in place. It's a tight squeeze along the north wall but it fits. We had to trim a few studs to make clearance. I started with the oscillating tool but then graduated to the Sawzall. We were not messing around. All that to say: the tub is back in its new home. It fit perfectly and proves this is where it should have been installed when the house was built. Alas.

I also worked today to get the rough plumbing for the tub and shower in place and tidied up the other plumbing.

The Holdrite brackets and stub-out mounts work well. They are sturdy and easy to use.

We tapped into the existing building vent stack to vent the sink. Some tight clearances but it will work out fine.

PEX makes it easy to install plumbing. I connected the shower valve and put in the stubs for both the tub and shower today.

On Monday, the electrician is coming to wire the room, including setting the bath fan. This is the second-to-last "hired out" task. Once the new glass block window is installed, it falls back to me as the general contractor/laborer.

Things are moving along well.
