Penny the Bloodhound

We have added a family member! This is Penny, our new bloodhound.
Sun's out, tongue's out after a good romp at the park!

Penny is a black-and-tan-bloodhound of about 16 months. She was raised by a breeder who specializes in bloodhounds for search-and-rescue groups. She's timid and shy and rather small for a bloodhound (probably full grown at only 70 pounds and 21" at her shoulder), so she was looking for her forever family in lieu of pursuing a line of work that was not a very good fit for such a sensitive girl. We brought her home on April 22. The breeder called her Sassy. We renamed her Penny and registered her with the AKC as our very own Penelope Sassafras.

So far, she has conquered her fear of riding in cars (though she does not like getting in and out of them yet), her fear of non-carpeted floors, her fear of walking on a leash, an EXTREME dislike of the back stairs, and an aversion to sidewalks. It was not an easy transition and there were some hard days, but we are so proud of her! (And of us!) She loves peanut butter, lots of sniffs on walks, cookies from Cosmo's (thanks, Susan!), romping in tall grass, and sleeping under the dining table. She's a bit afraid of strangers initially but seems to warm up to individuals after a few introductions. (She now fully leans against the legs of some neighbors, demanding head scratches.) She's very quiet; we have heard her bark only twice in 6 weeks. She's goofy and silly and has a lot of personality! She loves staying wherever her people are and is such a sweet little girl. We're very happy to have her with us!
