Spring is here!

It's finally warm and sunny in Wisconsin. Winter tires are off both cars, all the snow is gone; it's glorious!

Time to start thinking again about the summer and all the goodness to come. Earlier this week, I plotted our garden and planned which plants we needed to start indoors:

Today, I harvested some of the planter bed mix from outside, found the plant starter heat mats, grow bulbs, and light fixture. We're in business in the basement!

I decided to try something new this year and picked up a clear lid when I was shopping for plant starting supplies at Fleet Farm. Maybe this will help contain the heat and moisture a little better than what we did last year (where there was no covering). Time will tell!

Outside, things are starting to pop up! I am happy to report the garlic we planted as a natural deterrent to pests has overwintered successfully. Ms. K and I are looking forward to the possibility of garlic scapes later this spring, along with the possibility of having home-grown garlic later this summer. Flower bulbs are doing well. The usual suspects are up already. It's early, but it looks like the tulips are already popping up too.

More to come!
