Storm windows - step D: installing

We'll skip Step C: Painting for now and enjoy the results instead!

In preparations for the cooler seasons, it was time to put the storm windows I've been fixing back on the house. Here's one of the six windows that were disassembled, repaired, reglazed, and repainted.

Here's what the windows looked like before (on the south side, above the built-in buffet):

Here's the after picture, with fresh paint, new caulk, and general tidying up:

Another perspective. Before:

After:

We also put the rebuilt storm windows on the dormer in the master bedroom.

Before (one screen on the left, a storm window on the right):

After (please ignore the dormers that haven't been painted yet...that's a "hired out" project starting soon!):

We're happy with the results. Not shown: installing additional bronze weatherstripping on several of the casement windows (including those for the master bedroom), along with the guest bedroom. Hopefully a bit of air sealing from the weather stripping and new caulk will help keep cold at bay. If not, there's always good, old reliable window plastic.

  1. I am still happy with our choice of that blue. I was worried it would be too stripey or nautical with the creamy white, but that is not the case. Of course, if we put a giant anchor in the front yard as you keep joking, the nautical theme might be a foregone conclusion. Ahoy, Captain.
