Square foot update - June 9

Who would have guessed that square foot gardening would be so much fun. So far, things have gone pretty well, especially now that we've had our first touch of 80 degree temperatures!

The west bed is filling in nicely. On Sunday afternoon, we planted more spinach and mesclun for later enjoyment with lettuce and other greens that are already growing in the beds.

  Lettuce. Definitely lettuce.

Cilantro. Again, like the lettuce, it looks like cilantro. Hooray.

Arugula, with volunteer tomato shoots from the neighboring indeterminate heirloom variety.

Swiss Chard. It looks like we may need some Neem oil or other organic insect repellant.

Kale.

Now, for the east bed. Last night, we put up a supporting frame and trellis netting to train the peas and zucchini to grow vertically. The net's not visible, but try to spot the framework...

Lettuce, east box. This looks ready to fill our bowls.

Zucchini is growing like crazy! It'll be time to soon train the plant to grow vertically rather than crowding out its neighbors, the peas and tomatoes.

The overflow pots are also doing well.
Backyard pots: peas, tomatoes, hot peppers

Patio pots. Chard, two kinds of kale, spinach, arugula, and a special surprise for Ms. K.
