Leveling ground before planting

Our house used to have a fuel oil tank buried in the front lawn, removed sometime in the mid-1990s. As we worked the beds into shape, we decided it was time to attempt to level off the area before we added plants.

Mr. H picked up 12 bags of topsoil on his way home from work. With shovel and rake in hand, we proceeded to raise the elevation. It looks quite a bit better now and is ready for planting! Southeastern Wisconsin has been unseasonably cold. We had a frost advisory last night and tonight.  Tender young plants and frost do not mix well, so into the garage they went for an overnight rest before being brought back outside for sun. Hopefully the plants will be in the ground tomorrow.

Fresh grass sprouts where the old pine tree stump was. Lime and Milorganite are clearly working well together!
