Un-disastered!

Today was the big day: delivery of the re-ordered fridge. We had to switch from our prior choice, a fine Lucky-Goldstar with French doors to a Kitchen Aid model with bottom freezer and single door. It's a better choice, as this one has no ice maker or water dispenser (features for which we had zero interest).

I measured at least twice in all locations where there would be problems: the small door at the top of the stairs along with the clearance between the counter and the wall. All was good (though from our last experience with relying on dimensional sheets, we were a bit worried).

To be prepared for the delivery, I took off anything that would restrict access: doors, hand railing, stop moulding at the narrow door opening, and the storm door closer. Anything to improve clearance was fair game (provided we were not doing major demolition work).

Here's a view looking down the back steps to the outside:

The crew arrived around 11:00 with the new fridge. They came to the front door... I told them they'd have to use the side door. Our delivery crew was from Elkhart, Indiana. I commented on the difficulty of moving things into old houses. The driver said something like "yeah, all these old houses are this way."

After a short time, the fridge was brought in with little difficulty. A tight squeeze, but still passable! I put a note on the back of the new refrigerator to let the next person who has to move this appliance understand how it got in here.

The new fridge looks great and fits perfectly!

Ms. K said the right member of the team was at home for this delivery.  We are thrilled to have a new adult-sized refrigerator. Going with the bottom freezer was the right choice. Not having to stoop to look for food is a big plus! And it matches with the other new appliances. Hooray stainless!

Now, to make drawer fronts, doors, and finish painting. The end is near!
