Bulb orders for fall planting

After noticing what came up this year in the bulb department, I made a note that we need more pink. (I'm still sticking with my "no red" rule.) I also decided that it was time to fulfill my giant globe allium fantasy as a special treat after a very hard semester.

From Old House Gardens, once again surpassing all vendors with their captivating descriptions:
  • Vuurbaak hyacinth: "Favorites of the Victorians, so-called 'red' hyacinths like this ‘Fire Beacon’ are actually deep, deep rose – the Tyrian purple of ancient times – and offer a dramatic counterpoint to spring’s many pastels."
  • Peach Blossom tulip: "We sell tons of this old tulip every year, even though doubles have been woefully out of fashion for decades now – a testament to its great beauty. It’s a frothy extravaganza of white and pink (not peach), like a lacy, Victorian valentine. If you’ve never grown double tulips, this is the one to start with – and what are you waiting for?"
  • Willemsoord tulip: "With ruffled petals of deep carmine-rose shading to an edging of silver and pearl, ‘Willemsoord’ adds a rich note of counterpoint to spring’s pastels. Its name honors a Dutch utopian community founded in 1820 to give homes and farmland to the poor."
From American Meadows, I ordered:
  • Allium giganteum: 50-60" tall
  • Allium gladiator:  32-36" tall
  • Allium Mount Everest (white): 36-40" tall
  • Allium violet beauty: 20-24" tall
I think most of these will go in the front, but I plan to sprinkle a few hyacinth and allium behind the house against the brick wall. It faces east and gets strong sun until 3 or 4 pm, so I think they'll do well.

"What are you waiting for?" Indeed.
