The former owners of the house planted a blue spruce right in the middle of the front lawn. Did they know it would grow to approximately 40 feet in 25 or so years? Perhaps. Did they like the tree, the tree that blocked their view of the street and anyone from getting a good look at the house? Definitely. Neighbors have reported that the former owner was very proud of his tree.
We were not so pleased with it.
The aborist was not so pleased with it either, saying it would continue to grow and would get quite a lot bigger. As it grew, it would become even more susceptible to fungus.
Supported by the tree expert's opinion, we did not feel so bad about making the call to remove it. The tree came down this week.

We couldn't be happier. Except now it is clear that the house needs to be repainted, the front landscaping is a shambles, and the cushions on the patio furniture are in sad need of being refreshed.
Next project!
